SANTIAGO, Jun. 3, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Germany defeated Switzerland by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Estadio Nacional de Chile in Santiago.
Germany dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Albert Brülls in the 45th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Seeler in the 59th minute.
The result put the Germans second in Group 2 with 3 points. Switzerland is bottom with no points. In their last game, Germany will meet group leaders Chile at the Estadio Nacional de Chile on June 6, while Switzerland will face Italy.
