VIñA DEL MAR, May. 31, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Czechoslovakia defeated Spain by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the Sausalito Stadium in Viña del Mar.
45 minutes of play and neither the Czechoslovaks nor the Spaniards have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Czechoslovak midfielder Jozef Štibrányi with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Czechoslovak second in Group 3 with 2 points. In their next game, Czechoslovakia will meet group leaders Brazil at the Sausalito Stadium on June 2, while Spain will face Mexico.
