Czechoslovakia loses to Mexico but reaches World Cup quarterfinals
VIñA DEL MAR, Jun. 7, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Mexico defeated Czechoslovakia by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 2-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the Sausalito Stadium in Viña del Mar.
Czechoslovakia opened the score in the score in the 1st minute thanks to Václav Mašek, before Mexico regained the advantage with Díaz ('12) and Alfredo del Águila ('29). Leading 2-1 at the break, the Mexicans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Hernández on penalty seconds before the end of regulation.
