VIñA DEL MAR, Jun. 3, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Spain defeated Mexico by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Sausalito Stadium in Viña del Mar.
Mexico made the Spaniards doubt themselves for forty-five minutes. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Spanish midfielder Joaquín Peiró seconds before the end of regulation.
The result put the Spaniard third in Group 3 with 2 points. Mexico is bottom with no points. In their last game, Spain will meet group leaders Brazil at the Sausalito Stadium on June 6, while Mexico will face Czechoslovakia.
