GUADALAJARA, Jun. 3, 1970 (AMP) — Mexico 70 : Brazil defeated Czechoslovakia by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday afternoon at the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara.
Jairzinho scored dual goals
Czechoslovak forward Ladislav Petráš opened the score in the 11th minute, before seeing Brazil catch up in the 24th minute thanks to Rivelino. 1-1 at half time. The Brazilians eventually won the game in the second period with three more goals by Pelé ('59) and Jairzinho ('61, '83).
The result put the Brazilians top of Group 3 with 2 points. In their next game, Brazil will meet second-placed England at the Jalisco Stadium on June 7, while Czechoslovakia will face Romania.
