World Cup 1970 : Romania defeats Czechoslovakia 2-1
GUADALAJARA, Jun. 6, 1970 (AMP) — Mexico 70 : Romania defeated Czechoslovakia by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara.
Czechoslovakia had started off well by taking the lead in the 5th minute with a goal by forward Ladislav Petráš. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Romanians nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Neagu '52 and Dumitrache '75 on penalty).
The result put the Romanians third in Group 3 with 2 points. Czechoslovakia is bottom with no points. In their last game, Romania will meet group leaders Brazil at the Jalisco Stadium on June 10, while Czechoslovakia will face England.
