World Cup 1974 : Germany beats Sweden 4-2
DüSSELDORF, Jun. 30, 1974 (AMP) — Germany 74 : Germany defeated Sweden by a score of 4-2 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup second round game on Sunday night at the Rheinstadion in Düsseldorf.
Sweden had started off well by taking the lead in the 24th minute with a goal by forward Ralf Edström. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Germans nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring four times in the second period (Overath '51, Bonhof '52, Grabowski '76 and Hoeneß '89 on penalty).
The result put the Germans top of Group B with 4 points. Sweden is third with no points. In their last game, Germany will meet second-placed Poland at the Rheinstadion on July 3, while Sweden will face Yugoslavia.
