MENDOZA, Jun. 18, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : Poland defeated Peru by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup second round game on Sunday afternoon at the Estadio Ciudad de Mendoza.
45 minutes of play and neither the Poles nor the Peruvians have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Polish forward Andrzej Szarmach in the 64th minute.
The result put the Pole third in Group B with 2 points. Peru is bottom with no points. In their last game, Poland will meet group leaders Brazil at the Estadio Ciudad de Mendoza on June 21, while Peru will face Argentina.
