BUENOS AIRES, Jun. 2, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : Argentina defeated Hungary by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday night at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires.
Hungarian midfielder Károly Csapó opened the score in the 10th minute, before seeing Argentina catch up in the 15th minute thanks to Leopoldo Luque. 1-1 at half time. The Argentines eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Bertoni with just 7 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Argentine top of Group A with 2 points. In their next game, Argentina will meet third-placed France at the Estadio Monumental on June 6, while Hungary will face Italy.
