MAR DEL PLATA, Jun. 2, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : Italy defeated France by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday afternoon at the Estadio José María Minella in Mar del Plata.
French forward Bernard Lacombe opened the score in the 1st minute, before seeing Italy catch up in the 29th minute thanks to Paolo Rossi. 1-1 at half time. The Italians eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Zaccarelli in the 54th minute.
The result put the Italians top of Group A with 2 points. In their next game, Italy will meet Hungary at the Estadio José María Minella on June 6, while France will face Argentina.
