BUENOS AIRES, Jun. 6, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : Argentina defeated France by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday night at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires.
Argentina dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by defender Daniel Passarella in the 45th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Argentines further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Luque in the 73rd minute.
The result put the Argentine second in Group A with 4 points. France is third with no points. In their last game, Argentina will meet group leaders Italy at the Estadio Monumental on June 10, while France will face Hungary.
