MAR DEL PLATA, Jun. 6, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : Italy defeated Hungary by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 2-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday afternoon at the Estadio José María Minella in Mar del Plata.
Italy dominated the first half thanks to goals from Rossi ('34) and Bettega ('36). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Italians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Benetti in the 60th minute.
The result put the Italians top of Group A with 4 points. Hungary is bottom with no points. In their last game, Italy will meet second-placed Argentina at the Estadio José María Minella on June 10, while Hungary will face France.
