MENDOZA, Jun. 3, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : The Netherlands defeated Iran by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Estadio Ciudad de Mendoza.
Rob Rensenbrink scored tripple goals
The Netherlands dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Rob Rensenbrink in the 40th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Dutchs further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Rensenbrink '62, '78/penalty).
The result put the Dutch top of Group D with 2 points. In their next game, the Netherlands will meet second-placed Peru at the Estadio Ciudad de Mendoza on June 7, while Iran will face Scotland.
