World Cup 1978 : Scotland draw 1-1 with Iran
CORDOBA, Jun. 7, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : Scotland tied 1-1 with Iran (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday afternoon at the Estadio Olímpico Chateau Carreras in Cordoba.
The Scots started off well by taking the lead thanks to Iranian defender Andranik Eskandarian into his own net in the 43rd minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Iran with a saving goal from Iranian midfielder Iraj Danaeifard in the 60th minute.
The result put the Scot third in Group D with one point. Iran is bottom with one point. In their last game, Scotland will meet group leaders the Netherlands at the Estadio Olímpico Chateau Carreras on June 11, while Iran will face Peru.
