CORDOBA, Jun. 11, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : Peru defeated Iran by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 3-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Estadio Olímpico Chateau Carreras in Cordoba.
Teófilo Cubillas scored tripple goals
Peru dominated the first half thanks to goals from Velásquez ('2) and Cubillas ('36 on penalty, '39 on penalty). Leading 3-1 at the break, the Peruvians further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Cubillas in the 79th minute.
