CORDOBA, Jun. 3, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : Peru defeated Scotland by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Estadio Olímpico Chateau Carreras in Cordoba.
Teófilo Cubillas scored dual goals
Scottish forward Joe Jordan opened the score in the 19th minute, before seeing Peru catch up in the 43rd minute thanks to César Cueto. 1-1 at half time. The Peruvians eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Cubillas ('70, '76).
The result put the Peruvians second in Group D with 2 points. In their next game, Peru will meet group leaders the Netherlands at the Estadio Olímpico Chateau Carreras on June 7, while Scotland will face Iran.
