BILBAO, Jun. 16, 1982 (AMP) — Spain 82 : England defeated France by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday afternoon at the San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao.
Bryan Robson scored dual goals
English midfielder Bryan Robson opened the score in the 1st minute, before seeing France catch up in the 24th minute thanks to Gérard Soler. 1-1 at half time. The Englishs eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Robson ('67) and Mariner ('83).
The result put the English top of Group D with 2 points. In their next game, England will meet Czechoslovakia at the San Mamés Stadium on June 20, while France will face Kuwait.
