World Cup 1982 : Czechoslovakia and Kuwait play out 1-1 draw
VALLADOLID, Jun. 17, 1982 (AMP) — Spain 82 : Czechoslovakia tied 1-1 with Kuwait (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the Estadio José Zorrilla in Valladolid.
The Czechoslovaks started off well by taking the lead thanks to Czechoslovak midfielder Antonín Panenka on penalty in the 21st minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Kuwait with a saving goal from Kuwaiti forward Faisal Al-Dakhil in the 57th minute.
The result left both teams tied in the second place of Group D with one point. In their next game, Kuwait will meet France at the Estadio José Zorrilla on June 21, while Czechoslovakia will face England.
