World Cup 1986 : Mexico and Paraguay play to a 1-1 draw
MEXICO CITY, Jun. 7, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : Mexico tied 1-1 with Paraguay (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
The Mexicans started off well by taking the lead thanks to Mexican forward Luis Flores in the 3rd minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Paraguay with a saving goal from Paraguayan midfielder Julio César Romero in the 85th minute.
The result put the Mexicans top of Group B with 3 points. Paraguay is second with 3 points. In their last game, Mexico will meet Iraq at the Estadio Azteca on June 11, while Paraguay will face Belgium.
