LEóN, Jun. 1, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : France defeated Canada by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Estadio León.
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was settled in the second period with a saving goal by French forward Jean-Pierre Papin in the 79th minute.
The result put the French top of Group C with 2 points. In their next game, France will meet USSR at the Estadio León on June 5, while Canada will face Hungary.
