World Cup 1986 : USSR beats Hungary 6-0
IRAPUATO, Jun. 2, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : USSR defeated Hungary by a big score of 6-0 (halftime: 3-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday at the Estadio Sergio León Chávez in Irapuato.
USSR dominated the first half thanks to goals from Pavel Yakovenko ('2), Aleinikov ('4) and Belanov ('24 on penalty). Leading 3-0 at the break, the Soviets further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Yaremchuk '66, Dajka '73/own and Rodionov '80).
The result put the Soviet top of Group C with 2 points. In their next game, USSR will meet second-placed France at the Estadio Sergio León Chávez on June 5, while Hungary will face Canada.
