IRAPUATO, Jun. 6, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : Hungary defeated Canada by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday at the Estadio Sergio León Chávez in Irapuato.
Hungary dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Márton Esterházy in the 2nd minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Hungarians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Détári in the 75th minute.
The result put the Hungarians third in Group C with 2 points. Canada is bottom with no points. In their last game, Hungary will meet second-placed France at the Estadio Sergio León Chávez on June 9, while Canada will face USSR.
