World Cup 1986 : Algeria draw 1-1 with Northern Ireland
ZAPOPAN, Jun. 3, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : Algeria tied 1-1 with Northern Ireland (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday at the Estadio Tres de Marzo in Zapopan.
The Irishs started off well by taking the lead thanks to Irish midfielder Norman Whiteside in the 6th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Algeria with a saving goal from Algerian midfielder Djamel Zidane in the 59th minute.
The result left both teams tied in the second place of Group D with one point. In their next game, Northern Ireland will meet Spain at the Estadio Tres de Marzo on June 7, while Algeria will face Brazil.
