SAINT DENIS, Jun. 10, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : Brazil defeated Scotland by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday afternoon at the Stade de France in Saint Denis.
Brazilian midfielder César Sampaio opened the score in the 5th minute, before seeing Scotland catch up in the 38th minute thanks to John Collins penalty kick. 1-1 at half time. The Brazilians eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Boyd into his own net in the 74th minute.
The result put the Brazilians top of Group A with 3 points. In their next game, Brazil will meet Morocco at the Stade de France on June 16, while Scotland will face Norway.
