World Cup 2002 : Paraguay and South Africa play to a 2-2 draw
BUSAN, Jun. 2, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Paraguay tied 2-2 with South Africa (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Asiad Main Stadium in Busan.
The Paraguayans started off well by taking the lead thanks to Paraguayan forward Roque Santa Cruz in the 39th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, and despite Arce goal ('55) in the second period, they could not prevent a comeback by South Africa with goals by Teboho Mokoena ('63) and Quinton Fortune ('90 on penalty).
The result left both teams on top of Group B with one point. In their next game, South Africa will meet Slovenia at the Asiad Main Stadium on June 8, while Paraguay will face Spain.
