GWANGJU, Jun. 4, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Costa Rica defeated China by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday afternoon at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium.
China made the Costa Ricans doubt themselves for forty-five minutes. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with goals by Gómez ('61) and Wright ('65).
The result put the Costa Ricans top of Group C with 3 points. In their next game, Costa Rica will meet third-placed Turkey at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium on June 9, while China will face Brazil.
