NIIGATA, Jun. 3, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Mexico defeated Croatia by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday afternoon at the Niigata Stadium.
45 minutes of play and neither the Mexicans nor the Croatians have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was settled in the second period with a saving goal by Mexican forward Cuauhtémoc Blanco on penalty in the 60th minute.
The result put the Mexicans top of Group G with 3 points. In their next game, Mexico will meet Ecuador at the Niigata Stadium on June 9, while Croatia will face Italy.
