World Cup 2002 : Mexico beats Ecuador 2-1
RIFU, Jun. 9, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Mexico defeated Ecuador by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Miyagi Stadium.
Ecuadorian forward Agustín Delgado opened the score in the 5th minute, before seeing Mexico catch up in the 28th minute thanks to Jared Borgetti. 1-1 at half time. The Mexicans eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Torrado in the 57th minute.
The result put the Mexicans top of Group G with 6 points. Ecuador is bottom with no points. In their last game, Mexico will meet second-placed Italy at the Miyagi Stadium on June 13, while Ecuador will face Croatia.
