World Cup 2002 : Mexico and Italy qualify for the Round of 16

OITA, Jun. 13, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Mexico tied 1-1 with Italy (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday night at the Oita Stadium.

The Mexicans started off well by taking the lead thanks to Mexican forward Jared Borgetti in the 34th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Italy with a saving goal from Italian forward Alessandro Del Piero in the 85th minute.

Mexico and Italy both advance to the Round of 16.
