HANOVER, Jun. 12, 2006 (AMP) — Germany 2006 : Italy defeated Ghana by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday night at the Niedersachsenstadion in Hanover.
Italy dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Andrea Pirlo in the 40th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Italians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Iaquinta with just 7 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Italians second in Group E with 3 points. In their next game, Italy will meet the United States at the Niedersachsenstadion on June 17, while Ghana will face Czech republic.
