DORTMUND, Jun. 19, 2006 (AMP) — Germany 2006 : Switzerland defeated Togo by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday afternoon at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund.
Switzerland dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Alexander Frei in the 16th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Swisss further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Barnetta with just 2 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Swiss top of Group G with 4 points. Togo is bottom with no points. In their last game, Switzerland will meet second-placed South Korea at the Westfalenstadion on June 23, while Togo will face France.
