BLOEMFONTEIN, Jun. 20, 2010 (AMP) — South Africa 2010 : Paraguay defeated Slovakia by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
Paraguay dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Enrique Vera in the 27th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Paraguayans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Riveros with just 4 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Paraguayans top of Group F with 4 points. Slovakia is bottom with one point. In their last game, Paraguay will meet New Zealand at the Free State Stadium on June 24, while Slovakia will face Italy.
