SALVADOR, Jun. 20, 2014 (AMP) — Brazil 2014 : France defeated Switzerland by a score of 5-2 (halftime: 3-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday afternoon at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.
France dominated the first half thanks to goals from Giroud ('17), Matuidi ('18) and Valbuena ('40). Leading 3-0 at the break, the Frenchs further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Benzema '67 and Sissoko '73).
The result put the French top of Group E with 6 points. Switzerland is second with 3 points. In their last game, France will meet third-placed Ecuador at the Arena Fonte Nova on June 25, while Switzerland will face Honduras.
