SAINT PETERSBURG, Jun. 17, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2017 : Russia defeated New Zealand by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a Confederations Cup group stage game on Saturday night at the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg.
Russia dominated the first half as a result of the unfortunate own goal scored by Boxall in the 31st minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Russians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Smolov in the 69th minute.
The result put the Russians top of Group A with 3 points. In their next game, Russia will meet Portugal at the Krestovsky Stadium on June 21, while New Zealand will face Mexico.
