Confederations Cup 2017 : Mexico beats New Zealand 2-1
SOCHI, Jun. 21, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2017 : Mexico defeated New Zealand by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a Confederations Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi.
New Zealand had started off well by taking the lead in the 42nd minute with a goal by forward Chris Wood. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Mexicans nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Jiménez '54 and Peralta '72).
The result put the Mexicans top of Group A with 4 points. New Zealand is bottom with no points. In their last game, Mexico will meet third-placed Russia at the Fisht Olympic Stadium on June 24, while New Zealand will face Portugal.
