MONTEVIDEO, Jul. 13, 1930 (AMP) — Uruguay 1930 : France defeated Mexico by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 3-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Estadio Pocitos in Montevideo.
André Maschinot scored dual goals
France dominated the first half thanks to goals from Laurent ('19), Langiller ('40) and Maschinot ('43). Leading 3-0 at the break, the Frenchs further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Maschinot with just 3 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the French top of Group 1 with 2 points. In their next game, France will meet Argentina at the Estadio Pocitos on July 15, while Mexico will face Chile.
