MONTEVIDEO, Jul. 16, 1930 (AMP) — Uruguay 1930 : Chile defeated Mexico by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday afternoon at the Estadio Gran Parque Central in Montevideo.
Carlos Vidal scored dual goals
Chile dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Carlos Vidal in the 3rd minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Chilians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Rosas '52/own and Vidal '65).
The result put the Chilians top of Group 1 with 2 points. Mexico is bottom with no points. In their next game, Chile will meet second-placed France at the Estadio Gran Parque Central on July 19, while Mexico will face Argentina.
