MONTEVIDEO, Jul. 19, 1930 (AMP) — Uruguay 1930 : Argentina defeated Mexico by a score of 6-3 (halftime: 3-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
Guillermo Stábile scored tripple goals
Argentina dominated the first half thanks to goals from Stábile ('8, '17) and Zumelzú ('12). Leading 3-1 at the break, the Argentines further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Varallo '53, Zumelzú '55 and Stábile '80).
The result put the Argentine top of Group 1 with 4 points. Mexico is bottom with no points. In their last game, Argentina will meet second-placed Chile at the Estadio Centenario on July 22.
