MONTEVIDEO, Jul. 15, 1930 (AMP) — Uruguay 1930 : Argentina defeated France by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday afternoon at the Estadio Gran Parque Central in Montevideo.

45 minutes of play and neither the Argentines nor the Frenchs have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Argentine midfielder Luis Monti with just 9 minutes remaining in regulation time.

The result put the French top of Group 1 with 2 points. In their last game, France will meet Chile at the Estadio Gran Parque Central on July 19, while Argentina will face Mexico.
