World Cup 1950 : Spain defeats USA 3-1
CURITIBA, Jun. 25, 1950 (AMP) — Brazil 50 : Spain defeated the United States by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Estádio Vila Capanema in Curitiba.
The United States had started off well by taking the lead in the 17th minute with a goal by forward Gino Pariani. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Spaniards nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Igoa '81, Basora '83 and Zarra '89).
The result put the Spaniard top of Group 2 with 2 points. In their next game, Spain will meet Chile at the Estádio Vila Capanema on June 29, while the United States will face England.
