RIO DE JANEIRO, Jul. 2, 1950 (AMP) — Brazil 50 : Spain defeated England by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

45 minutes of play and neither the Spaniards nor the Englishs have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Spanish forward Telmo Zarra in the 48th minute.

Spain advance to the next round of the ongoing FIFA World Cup. England is eliminated.
