World Cup 1962 : Uruguay beats Colombia 2-1
ARICA, May. 30, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Uruguay defeated Colombia by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday afternoon at the Carlos Dittborn Stadium in Arica.
Colombia had started off well by taking the lead in the 19th minute with a goal by defender Francisco Zuluaga on penalty. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Uruguayans nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Cubilla '56 and Sasía '75).
The result put the Uruguayans top of Group 1 with 2 points. In their next game, Uruguay will meet Yugoslavia at the Carlos Dittborn Stadium on June 2, while Colombia will face USSR.
