ARICA, May. 31, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : USSR defeated Yugoslavia by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the Carlos Dittborn Stadium in Arica.
45 minutes of play and neither the Soviets nor the Yugoslavs have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with goals by Ivanov ('51) and Ponedelnik ('83).
The result put the Soviet top of Group 1 with 2 points. In their next game, USSR will meet third-placed Colombia at the Carlos Dittborn Stadium on June 3, while Yugoslavia will face Uruguay.
