World Cup 1962 : Yugoslavia beats Uruguay 3-1
ARICA, Jun. 2, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Yugoslavia defeated Uruguay by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 2-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Carlos Dittborn Stadium in Arica.
Uruguay opened the score in the score in the 19th minute thanks to Ángel Cabrera, before Yugoslavia regained the advantage with Skoblar ('25 on penalty) and Galić ('29). Leading 2-1 at the break, the Yugoslavs further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Jerković in the 49th minute.
The result put the Yugoslav second in Group 1 with 2 points. Uruguay is third with 2 points. In their last game, Yugoslavia will meet Colombia at the Carlos Dittborn Stadium on June 7, while Uruguay will face USSR.
