World Cup 1962 : USSR and Colombia tied at 4-4
ARICA, Jun. 3, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : USSR tied 4-4 with Colombia (halftime: 3-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Carlos Dittborn Stadium in Arica.
The Soviets started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Ivanov ('8, '11) and Chislenko ('10) while the Colombians only scored once Aceros ('21). However, even though they were leading 3-1 at half time, and despite Ponedelnik goal ('56) in the second period, they could not prevent a comeback by Colombia with goals by Marcos Coll ('68 on corner kick), Antonio Rada ('72) and Marino Klinger ('86).
The result put the Soviet top of Group 1 with 3 points. Colombia is bottom with one point. In their last game, USSR will meet third-placed Uruguay at the Carlos Dittborn Stadium on June 6, while Colombia will face Yugoslavia.
