LIVERPOOL, Jul. 12, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : Brazil defeated Bulgaria by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday night at Goodison Park in Liverpool.
Brazil dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Pelé in the 15th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Brazilians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Garrincha in the 63rd minute.
The result put the Brazilians top of Group 3 with 2 points. In their next game, Brazil will meet Hungary at Goodison Park on July 15, while Bulgaria will face Portugal.
