LIVERPOOL, Jul. 15, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : Hungary defeated Brazil by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday night at Goodison Park in Liverpool.
Hungarian forward Ferenc Bene opened the score in the 2nd minute, before seeing Brazil catch up in the 14th minute thanks to Tostão. 1-1 at half time. The Hungarians eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Farkas ('64) and Mészöly ('73 on penalty).
The result put the Hungarians second in Group 3 with 2 points. Brazil is third with 2 points. In their last game, Hungary will meet Bulgaria at Goodison Park on July 20, while Brazil will face Portugal.
