MANCHESTER, Jul. 16, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : Portugal defeated Bulgaria by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 2-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford.
Portugal dominated the first half thanks to goals from Vutsov ('17 own) and Eusébio ('38). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Portugueses further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Torres with just 9 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Portuguese top of Group 3 with 4 points. Bulgaria is bottom with no points. In their last game, Portugal will meet third-placed Brazil at Old Trafford on July 19, while Bulgaria will face Hungary.
