MANCHESTER, Jul. 13, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : Portugal defeated Hungary by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.
José Augusto scored dual goals
Portugal dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder José Augusto in the 1st minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Portugueses further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Augusto '67 and Torres '90).
The result put the Portuguese top of Group 3 with 2 points. In their next game, Portugal will meet Bulgaria at Old Trafford on July 16, while Hungary will face Brazil.
