MIDDLESBROUGH, Jul. 12, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : USSR defeated North Korea by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 2-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday night at Ayresome Park in Middlesbrough.
Eduard Malofeyev scored dual goals
USSR dominated the first half thanks to goals from Malofeyev ('31) and Banishevskiy ('33). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Soviets further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Malofeyev with just 2 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Soviet top of Group 4 with 2 points. In their next game, USSR will meet Italy at Ayresome Park on July 16, while North Korea will face Chile.
